Support for family and friends
Include families, strengthen relationships, support carers
Addiction affects more than one person. It disrupts an entire circle of people: family, partners, children, friends…
At Guépart, we know that support from loved ones is a source of strength and a major driver of change in the recovery process.
Why involve loved ones? The carer–participant partnership
That is why we have developed specific activities for family carers, whether or not they are involved in the programme.
Structured support for the family and friends of participants in the Guépart programme
Monthly support groups
Facilitated by psychologists, these groups offer a space to:
Psychoeducation days
Organised by addiction care professionals (doctors, psychologists…), they aim to:
Meaningful, moving occasions bringing together participants, families and care professionals after the trip.
Post-trip sharing evenings
Speak freely
Share feelings and experiences
Break isolation
Understand your own limits
Better understand the mechanisms of addiction
Identify supportive approaches that offer encouragement without blame
Look after yourself while supporting your loved one

“I can support someone else without neglecting my own needs.”
This principle is central to our support.
Together, we share what was experienced, recognise how far people have come and rebuild connections.
Support for all families affected by addiction
(outside the Guépart programme)
The addiction service at Albert Chenevier Hospital offers support for families who are not taking part in the programme:
We believe recovery is a collective process. Support groups, psychoeducation days and post-journey sharing evenings help loved ones play an active role. They learn to understand addiction, respond appropriately and restore their own balance, often put under considerable strain.
Monthly support groups open to everyone
Accessible to anyone affected by a loved one’s addiction (Val-de-Marne)
A supportive, confidential setting facilitated by specialist professionals
Open to attend and free of charge
Psychoeducation days
Group workshops to understand addictive disorders
Practical advice on taking a supportive approach
Sharing experiences with other family members and friends, and with care professionals
These activities aim to break isolation, provide guidance and create an emotional safety net for carers.
Are you an organisation or local authority?
